- Shock spa with sanitizer
- Add sanitizer
- Adjust pH and/or alkalinity with pH+/Resist or pH-/Relent
- Run jet pump(s) and Filter Cleaner
- Drain, clean and refill the spa
- Bring us a water sample
Water Odor
Probable Cause:
- Excessive organics in water
- Improper sanitization
- Low pH
Solutions:
- Shock spa with sanitizer
- Add sanitizer
- Adjust pH with pH+/Resist to recommended range
- Drain, clean and refill the spa
- Bring us a water sample
Chlorine Odor
Probable Cause:
- Chloramine level too high
- Low pH
Solutions:
- Shock spa with sanitizer
- Adjust pH with pH+/Resist to recommended range
- Bring us a water sample
Musty Odor
Probable Cause:
- Bacteria or algae growth
Solutions:
- Shock spa with sanitizer
- If the problem is visible or persistent, Use Pipe Cleanse for 24 hours then drain, clean and refill the spa. If problem persists or is particularly aggressive use Summer Smiles Spa Drain Ultra.
- Bring us a water sample
Organic Buildup/Scum Ring Around Spa
Probable Cause:
- Buildup of oils and dirt
Solutions:
- Wipe off scum with clean rag
- If severe, drain and refill the spa.
- Bring us a water sample
Algae Growth
Probable Cause:
- High pH
- Low sanitizer lever
Solutions:
- Shock spa with sanitizer
- Adjust pH with pH-/Resist to recommended range
- Shock spa with sanitizer, and maintain sanitizer level
- Use Pipe Cleanse then drain and refill the spa. If particularly aggressive use Summer Smiles Spa Drain Ultra
- Bring us a water sample
Eye Irritation
Probable Cause:
- Low pH

- Total alkalinity and/or pH too low
- High iron or copper in source water
Solutions:
- Adjust total alkalinity and/or PH with pH+/Resist
- Use Eliminate Plus Stain & Scale to inhibit metals
- Bring us a water sample
Scale
Probable Cause:
- Total alkalinity and/or pH too high
- High calcium content in water
Solutions:
- Adjust total alkalinity and pH with pH+/Resist
- If scale requires removal, drain the spa, scrub off the scale, and refill the spa
- Balance the water using pH+/Resist or pH-/Resist
- Bring us a water sample
